Maintaining your HVAC equipment
In order to keep your system running smoothly, you should maintain your HVAC unit on a regular basis. We've prepared a maintenance checklist to help you get the most out of your equipment.
Note: Some of the following projects can be dangerous and should only be performed by a qualified technician. Comfort Zone, Inc. assumes no liability for use of the following information.
Maintenance Checklist:
- Change Air Filters (4x Yearly)
- Changing air filters is the first step to maintaining the efficiency of your heating or cooling unit. It's easy to do and it will help air flow into the unit faster and cleaner. Check the unit for individual instructions.
- Wash Condenser Coils (Yearly)
- The condenser coils and surrounding fins must remain clean and free of debris and damage for maximum performance. Disconnect power from the unit. Rinse the coils with water until it comes through clean, keeping as much water as possible outside of the unit. Allow time to dry before reconnecting.
- Tighten Electrical Connections (Yearly)
- Maintaining good electrical connections minimizes the possibility of electrical problems or interruption of service.
- Check Belts (At Least 2x Yearly)
- Since all belts eventually need replacement, it's better to replace them before they break to keep from interruption of service. Replace any belts that show signs of wear such as fraying or cracking.
- Lubricate Bearings (At Least 2x Yearly)
- Fan bearings must be kept clean and lubricated to continue rated efficiency and prolong the life of the fan motor.
